Donate Your Used iPod To the Music for Memories Project

Music for Memories Project

One of the hardest parts about growing up and living in the world today is seeing your parents, loved ones and relatives deal with the specter of dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s is pretty common in the world today but, thankfully, there are wide variety of things that average people can do to stimulate memories in Alzheimer’s patients including the use of music.

Local Kids Helping Seniors

In Pleasant Hill, two girls from the local Girl Scout Troop: Juliana Friis and Kayla Kelly, are doing something to help seniors in the community, while at the same time working towards earning their Silver Award by collecting used iPods for the Music for Memories Project.

Yes The Music for Memories Project Works

Thanks to the hard work of people like Juliana Friis and Kayla Kelly, plus thousands of health care professionals across United States, we know that music does play an integral part in stimulating memories in the minds of Alzheimer’s patients.

What songs do you know and love that you saved on your iPod, MP3 player, phone or computer?

By helping out Juliana Friis and Kayla Kelly when you donate your used MP3 player, iPod, or iTunes gift card, you will be able to help a senior citizen right here in Pleasant Hill in their battle with Alzheimer’s by providing them with the gift of music which will help to stimulate long buried memories by the songs that will be pre-programmed on the portable device that’s given to them.

To be a part of the music for memories program you will need to donate your used iPod, MP3 player or iTunes gift card by placing it in a collection box at: Christ the King Church, Grace Healthcare of Pleasant Hill or Valley View Middle School.

For more information on the music for memories program contact Kayla Kelly by emailing her at:
kelly0894@sbcglobal.net.

Watch Out For Senior Abuse

If you suspect that a senior citizen or older adult in your family is being either emotionally or physically abused it’s important to speak up and be their “advocate” because, sadly, most Senior Citizens are not able to speak up for themselves.

Some common examples of abuse to senior citizens include: sudden loss of weight, broken bones, bruises, bed-sores and cuts.

To report elder abuse contact the Contra Costa County Adult Protective Services unit at (877) 839-2070
